History

Seguin is a city in Guadalupe County, Texas and is located on Interstate Highway 10 and the Guadalupe River, thirty-five miles northeast of San Antonio in the central part of the county. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area and is the county seat of Guadalupe County.

The Guadalupe River, the San Marcos River, and two major creeks, Cibolo and Geronimo, flow through the region.

In 1986 the Seguin city government changed from the mayor-council form of city government to the council-manager form of city government. By 1988 the town had an estimated population of 22,000 and more than thirty businesses that employed more than fifteen full-time workers each.

On August 12, 1988, Seguin celebrated its sesquicentennial year. Tourists were attracted to Max Starcke Park, the Guadalupe County Coliseum, and the County Fairgrounds, where the Texas State High School Rodeo has been held since 1984.

Geography

Seguin is located at 29°34'28?N 97°57'55?W / 29.57444°N 97.96528°W / 29.57444; -97.96528 (29.574329, -97.965332). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.2 square miles (49.7 km˛), of which, 19.0 square miles (49.3 km˛) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km˛) of it (0.89%) is water. Seguin is continually annexing and growing.
