History
Canyon City, Texas is a community located on Farm Road 306 along the Guadalupe River and just below Canyon Dam about thirteen miles northwest of New Braunfels in north-northeastern Comal County. Development of this primarily residential area began in the 1960’s after the completion of Canyon Lake in 1964.
In 1970 the population was 100. That figure remained the same through 2000. The community suffered widespread damage from floods in 1998 and 2002.
CANYON LAKE . Canyon Lake, formerly known as Canyon Reservoir, is on the Guadalupe River twelve miles northwest of New Braunfels in northern Comal County (at 29°52' N, 98°12' W). The project is owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District.
The local cooperative agency is the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, which, for paying part of the cost, has rights to the conservation storage space and control over the use and release of conservation water.
The lake, formed by a rolled earthfill dam 6,830 feet long, is used for flood control, water conservation, and recreation. Construction of the dam was started on June 27, 1958, and impoundment of water began on June 16, 1964.

Geography
Canyon Lake, Texas is located at 29°52'53?N 98°16'3?W / 29.88139, -98.2675 (29.881462, -98.267460). It is located adjacent to Canyon Lake, from where it gets its name.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 156.9 square miles (406.3 km˛), of which, 144.3 square miles (373.6 km˛) of it is land and 12.6 square miles (32.7 km˛) of it (8.04%) is water.
